Synematik

Grammy-Winning Music Producer : Engineer : Songwriter : Artist Developer

Born to Nigerian and Kenyan parents, Niyi “Synematik” Adelekan developed an affinity for music at an early age, growing up surrounded by great music, classical and contemporary. He credits the genesis of his diverse taste in music to his parents' vinyl and cassette collection they began acquiring during their college days in the U.K. Add to that his older sister’s amazing mixtapes, and you would hear everything from Mozart to Anita Baker to Motown, Abba & The Beatles on any given day. Being part of a musical household (one brother plays bass for Gorillaz, the other, bass for Metronomy), classical piano lessons and playing in church were the norm, opening the door to his musical journey as a composer and producer.
With the support of his family, he graduated from Berklee College of Music and moved to New York — promptly encountering the reality that talent alone opens nothing. In the midst of early-career setbacks, a providential encounter with the legendary Stevie Wonder changed his trajectory. Stevie listened to his music, told him not to give up, and offered words of wisdom that have stayed with him since. It was the kind of moment you can't manufacture — and exactly the one he needed.

Doors began to open as Synematik honed his craft by working with whatever artists, songwriters & creatives he could get access to. Opportunities followed with award-winning producers and camps including Murder Inc (Seven Aurelius & Irv Gotti), Havoc, Dennis Ferrer, and others who sharpened his craft in the trenches of New York's music scene. His talents eventually caught the attention of industry veterans Danny D & Tim Blacksmith — the executives behind the signing of Sam Smith, Charli XCX, and Labrinth, and then managers of acclaimed production duo Stargate — who offered him his first publishing deal via Sony.
Since relocating to Los Angeles, Synematik has produced, engineered, & collaborated with artists and producers spanning the full spectrum of modern music: Elmiene, No ID, D'Mile, Summer Walker, Sevyn Streeter, Raphael Saadiq, Kerry "Krucial" Brothers, FLO, MNEK, Boyz II Men, Adekunle Gold, Angélique Kidjo, Tayla Parx, Pop Wansel, DJ Camper, Philip Lawrence, and rising talent Tahjer on Warner Publishing. He remains in Los Angeles, where he operates his music production company, Synematik Musicworld LLC.
